Project Overview:
Customized Steel Structure Fabrication for a Semiconductor Manufacturing Facility
This project involved the fabrication of customized steel structures for a semiconductor manufacturing facility in Singapore.
Unlike a conventional warehouse or standard industrial workshop, semiconductor manufacturing facilities often contain multiple functional areas, equipment zones and structural levels that need to be coordinated within the same building system.
The steel structure for this project therefore included multi-level framing, customized large steel components and project-specific connection details, all manufactured according to the approved project drawings.
Our work focused on the fabrication of the required structural steel components, with particular attention to component geometry, connection accuracy, welding quality and dimensional consistency.Project Information:Item Details Project Location Singapore Project Type Industrial steel structure Structural Form Multi-storey / multi-level steel structure Fabrication Type Customized according to project drawings Project Application Semiconductor manufacturing facility Main Steelwork Structural frames and customized fabricated components Project Requirement Precision fabrication and structural interface coordination Project Background & Structural Requirements:
The steel structure formed part of a semiconductor manufacturing facility where the building structure needed to coordinate with different production areas and equipment-related spaces.
Compared with a standard single-storey industrial building, the project involved a more complex multi-level structural arrangement.
The steelwork needed to accommodate:
- structural members at different elevations;
- equipment and production areas;
- floor and platform interfaces;
- vertical and horizontal structural connections;
- and project-specific openings and connection positions.
Because multiple structural systems needed to fit together within the same industrial facility, accurate positioning of steel members and connection interfaces was an important requirement throughout fabrication.Our Scope of Work:The steel structure was manufactured according to the approved project drawings and fabrication requirements.
Our scope covered customized structural steel components required for the industrial facility, including:
- main structural members;
- fabricated beams and columns;
- welded box or built-up components where specified;
- connection plates;
- stiffeners;
- support members;
- and other project-specific steel components.
Because many members were customized for their specific positions within the building, fabrication needed to follow the exact geometry, plate arrangement, connection details and dimensions shown in the drawings.
The focus was not simply on producing individual steel members, but on ensuring that the components could correctly interface with the adjoining structural elements defined by the project design.Key Fabrication Requirements:Multi-Level Structural Coordination
The project included steel members serving different structural levels within the semiconductor manufacturing facility.
Columns, beams, supports and connection interfaces therefore needed to maintain the positional relationships defined in the drawings so that adjoining structural components could be coordinated correctly.
Customized Large Steel Components
Some members were fabricated as customized welded assemblies rather than standard rolled sections.
These components required control of:
- plate positioning;
- stiffener locations;
- connection geometry;
- member dimensions;
- and welding deformation.
Connection & Interface Accuracy
Industrial facility structures often contain multiple interfaces between primary steelwork, secondary members and equipment-related areas.
For this project, bolt-hole positions, connection plates and adjoining member interfaces needed to follow the approved drawings accurately.Precision Fabrication & Quality Control:The fabrication process focused on the dimensions and structural details that directly affect component matching and subsequent assembly.
Key control items included:
- overall member dimensions;
- section geometry;
- plate positioning;
- stiffener locations;
- connection plate positions;
- bolt-hole locations;
- weld appearance and continuity;
- member straightness;
- and component identification.
For welded built-up members, the fabrication sequence also needed to consider deformation caused by welding.
Dimensional checks were therefore carried out during fabrication rather than relying only on final inspection after the component was completed.
This was particularly important for components with multiple connection interfaces, where deviation in one area could affect alignment with adjoining members.Project Coordination & Installation Support:Project Coordination & Installation Support
For an industrial facility with multiple structural levels and customized components, clear drawing coordination and component identification are important links between factory fabrication and subsequent site assembly.
Components were fabricated and identified according to their corresponding project drawings and structural positions to support subsequent coordination at the project site.
For overseas projects, we can also assist with delivery coordination according to the project requirements.
We do not provide on-site installation services, but we can provide erection drawings, component marking, installation guidance, technical clarification and remote technical support when required.Planning a Similar Semiconductor or Precision Industrial Steel Structure Project?:Semiconductor and other high-specification industrial facilities often require steel structures that coordinate with complex building layouts, multiple structural levels and project-specific interfaces.
If you already have project drawings, we can evaluate the steel structure based on the actual:
structural drawings + fabrication drawings + component specifications + steel material requirements + connection details + dimensional requirements
For projects involving customized built-up members or complex interfaces, detailed drawings allow us to evaluate fabrication requirements more accurately before quotation.
