  • Project Overview:

    Heavy Industrial Steel Structure for a Blast Furnace Project
    This project involves a customized heavy steel structure for a blast furnace and metallurgical production facility in India.
    Unlike a conventional steel workshop or warehouse, the steelwork forms part of an industrial process system and needs to coordinate with large equipment, elevated structural levels, operating areas and project-specific connection interfaces.
    The project therefore involved large and heavy fabricated steel components, multi-level structural arrangements and customized connection details manufactured according to the approved project drawings.
    Our work focused on manufacturing the required steel structure and coordinating the preparation and transportation of the large steel components for overseas delivery.
    We do not provide on-site installation services, but we can provide erection drawings, component marking, installation guidance, technical clarification and remote technical support when required.

    Project Background & Structural Requirements:

    The steel structure was developed as part of a blast furnace industrial system rather than as an independent building frame.
    The project needed to accommodate the structural and operational requirements surrounding the metallurgical equipment, including steel members located at different elevations and multiple interfaces between the supporting structure and related equipment areas.
    Compared with a conventional single-level industrial building, this type of project places greater emphasis on:
    - vertical structural coordination;
    - large load-bearing members;
    - equipment-related support positions;
    - operating and maintenance levels;
    - bracing and structural stability;
    - and accurate connection interfaces between adjacent components.
    For this reason, each major member had to be fabricated according to its specific position within the overall blast furnace structural system.

    Our Scope of Work:

    The steel structure was manufactured according to the approved project drawings and component requirements.
    Our fabrication scope included the customized steel members required for the blast furnace supporting structure, such as:
    - major load-bearing steel members;
    - structural frames;
    - columns and beams;
    - bracing components;
    - connection plates;
    - stiffened welded assemblies;
    - and other project-specific steel components.
    Many of these components were not standard building members.
    Fabrication therefore needed to follow the actual:
    - member geometry;
    - plate thickness and arrangement;
    - stiffener locations;
    - connection details;
    - bolt-hole positions;
    - and assembly interfaces shown in the drawings.
    This was particularly important because the fabricated members needed to coordinate with other parts of the blast furnace structural and equipment system.

    Key Engineering & Fabrication Challenges:

    Multi-Level Structural Coordination
    The blast furnace supporting structure includes steel members positioned at different elevations and connected through a three-dimensional structural system.
    The fabrication of individual members therefore needed to maintain accurate relationships between columns, beams, bracing and connection interfaces so that the overall structure could be assembled according to the project drawings.
    Large and Heavy Customized Components
    The project included steel components that were significantly larger and heavier than conventional building members.
    Their size influenced not only fabrication, but also:
    - workshop handling;
    - lifting arrangements;
    - temporary support;
    - loading orientation;
    - and transportation planning.
    Connection & Interface Accuracy
    The steel structure needed to coordinate with adjoining structural components and equipment-related interfaces.
    Connection plate locations, bolt holes, stiffeners and member geometry therefore required careful control during fabrication.

    Heavy Component Handling, Transportation & Installation Support:

    The blast furnace project included large and heavy customized steel components, making handling and transportation an important part of project delivery.
    Before shipment, the components needed to be organized with consideration for:
    - component dimensions and weight;
    - suitable lifting points;
    - loading orientation;
    - transportation conditions;
    - handling requirements;
    - and identification for subsequent site assembly.
    We assisted with the transportation and delivery coordination of the fabricated steel components for the India project.
    For large project-specific members, transportation planning is closely connected with fabrication. Component size and geometry need to be considered before loading so that the steelwork can be handled, transported and unloaded efficiently.
    Clear component identification also helps the customer’s local team match delivered members with the corresponding drawings and installation positions.
    We do not provide on-site installation services, but we can provide erection drawings, component marking, installation guidance, technical clarification and remote technical support when required.

    Planning a Similar Blast Furnace or Heavy Industrial Steel Structure Project?:

    Blast furnace and metallurgical steel structures usually require more project-specific fabrication and coordination than conventional industrial buildings.
    If you already have project drawings, we can evaluate the steel structure based on the actual:
    component drawings + material requirements + structural interfaces + fabrication specifications + component dimensions + transportation requirements
    For large, heavy or irregular steel components, providing detailed drawings at the quotation stage also allows us to evaluate fabrication and transportation requirements more accurately.
